End of Year Science Report

 Hello and welcome to the final Science blog post. This year has gone by quick and Science has been amazing. But unfortunately, all good things have to come to an end. In science, we drew a house and added light bulbs to it.

The aim of the project was to calculate how much current the house had.

I picked the second template which was At Level (I'm guessing that means At Level). I used 10 light bulbs. The rooms I had were Living Room, Bathroom, Kitchen, Dining and 3 Bedrooms.


Voltage means an electromotive force or potential difference expressed in volts.
Current means a flow of electricity that results from the ordered directional movement of electrically charged particles.
Resistance means stopping something.

V/I, V/R and IxR

The project wasn't that fun, if I knew it was the end of year thing I would have done it properly. I might try to do the harder one next time

Electroplating With Copper

In Science today we electroplated steel with copper.

Equipment 
1. Power Supply 
2 Wires With Clips Copper Sulfate Solution
3. Copper 
4. Something you want to plate.
5. Beaker

Method
Put your slips onto the positive and negative terminals of your power supply. Attach the copper to the positive wire and the metal you want to plate to the negative wire.

Put the copper sulfate solution in a tall beaker and put the copper and item in the solution. Avoid the clips entering the solution.

Set your power supply to 6 volts and turn it on! Leave for several minutes.

Result
The key turned to a copper colour.

Discussion
Copper in the Blue Solution was, Cu (Blue), with an electrical current turned into Cu (Orange Metal) on the negative electrode.

Hello and Today in Science We Made an Electromagnet. We Tangled a Copper Wire Around a Nail and We Turned on a Power Generator and it Was Magnetic. We Were Picking Up Paperclips.

Current Electricity

 Hello and Welcome to Another Blog Post in Lockdown. This week in Science we had to learn about Current Electricity

1. What is the Particle that Moves in a Wire? Electrons.

2. If there is a High Current in a Circuit What Does this Mean? The Fuse will Melt but Protects the Remainder of the Circuit.

3. How Does Electricity Work to Heat up a Stove? It Works Through Coils.

4. Where is DC Electricity Used? Where is AC Electricity Used? DC is Used in Low Current Applications Such as Charging Batteries. AC is Used to Give Power to Houses, Office Buildings etc.

Static Electricty

 Hello and welcome to another blog post in lockdown. I have to answer these questions about static electricity.

Questions

1. What are the 3 particles that make up everything? Which ones have a positive and negative charge? Protons, Neutrons and Electrons. Protons are positive and Electrons are negative.

2. Objects want to be "electrically natural" What does this mean? They want to be the same amount of charge. Protons want to be positive as much as Electrons want to be negative.

3. When you rub two insulators you can get a static shock, so what are an insulator and a conductor? They would repel each other and transfer the negative to the conductor. An example of this is metal and plastic.

4. What is an example of static electricity? Rubbing a balloon on your body.

Diffusion of Potassium Permanganate

 Guten Tag and today we did the Diffusion of Potassium Permanganate experiment. We had to put permanganate in the hot water and cold water and it would turn purple. The hot water was faster than the cold water at changing colour.

Equipment: Tweezers, Petri Dish, KMnO4, Hot Water, Cold Water.

Question/Aim: Does temperature speed up or slow down diffusion? Yes the hotter the water the faster.

Result/Observation: The permanganate grew 2x faster in hot water than in cold water.

Conclusion: The particles in hot water are moving faster.

Imploding Can

Guten Morgan and welcome to this blog post. Today we did the Imploding Can experiment. I didn't see what happened but I think the can was supposed to get crushed.

 Equipment/Method: Tripod, Bunsen Burner, Heat Mat. Gauze Mat, Scissor Tongs, Water in Ice Cream Container.

Results: We had to put 10-15ml of water in the can and hold it with a Scissor Tongs above the flame. Once it started boiling we had to turn it over into the ice cream container full of water. I didn't see what happened but I think the can popped and got crushed.

Rising Water

 Hello and welcome to this blog post. Today in Science we did the Rising Water experiment.

Aim: To see what happens to the water level when the candle is covered.

Method: Petri Dish, Candle, Lighter, Cup, Water, Matches. Hot "High Pressure". Cold "Low Pressure"

Hypothesis: The flame and the water will create gas.

Results: Gas was coming out of the flame.

Conclusion/Why: The flame needed air so it tried sucking some but there was none because it was covered with a cup so it tried sucking everything else including the water.

 Crystal Blog

Aim: To see if crystals grow.

Method: Beaker, Pencil, Pipes, Water and Science Liquid things.

Conclusion: The crystals are growing and connecting to the pipe.

Discussion: I think that crystals can be used for art and to amaze people in the world.

Dilution and Filtration Blog

 Hello and welcome to this blog post about Science.

Write answers to these questions that will be included in your blog once we are done:

1. Which test tube had the most concentrated sample of Copper nitrate? The first one was the most concentrated and it has the strongest colour.

2. When new added water what were we doing to the concentration of the solution? It weakens the colour.

3. Which concentration of copper nitrate formed the most precipitate, why do you think this is the case? The first one.

Key Terms

Filtering is when you can separate the solute (solid) from the solvent (liquid).

Separate means to split apart.

Once the solvent has been filtered that is called the filtrate.

Water Boat

 Aim: Trying to see how long it takes for a fire to burn the paper with water on it.

Method: Tripod, Beaker, Gas, Paper, Fire.

1. Make the paper boat.

2. Setting up all the equipment.

3. If water went everywhere or the whole thing went up in flames you had to stop doing it.

Results: The paper ended up falling off due to a lack of balance and it spilt everywhere. It lasted like 47 milliseconds it spilt straight away

Conclusion: I think that it spilt because the bottom of it wasn't strong enough and ripped apart the middle and it spilt to the right somehow.

Dehydration

Heart Dissection ($6 Heart from the Warehouse) Just kidding it's not $6 or from the Warehouse

Heart Dissection

Aim: To look at the structure of the heart.


Method: Gloves, Scalpel, Tray, Scissors, Tweezers,

Cleaning Supplies, Newspapers and THE HEART.


Steps

  1. Put newspaper on the table

  2. Put on gloves.

  3. Get a tray.

  4. Then get the items to dissect the heart.


Results

We cut it in half and stabbed it.


Dissecting A Chicken (My First Blog Post in Years)

  Hi, it’s Nolan I don’t know if this is my first blog post or not but this is me dissecting a chicken… Sorry if I’m rusty, this is my first time posting on a blog since primary school, so I’m quite bad at this. Anyway, I don’t know how to show the photos seeing that they’re on my phone.


 Ok now to the juicy bit of the chicken… literary juicy. We were learning about chicken bones. We used those knife things to peel off the skin but we couldn’t even peel it off. It was that hard so we just started stabbing the chicken.


 Bone - Give us structure and protection.

Muscle - Moves our bones.

Tendon - connects muscle to bone.

Ligament - connects bone to bone.
